Title: Apple Safari Windows Installer Local Privilege Escalation Vulnerability

Description:

Apple Safari is a web browser available for Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows.

Apple Safari is prone to a local privilege-escalation vulnerability because it fails to properly drop permissions the first time it is run. The problem occurs in the compression method used in the installer. A local attacker can exploit this issue by checking the 'launch Safari immediately after installation' option during install.

The attacke may be able to exploit this issue to gain elevated privileges, which may aid in further attacks.

This issue affects versions prior to Safari 4.0 running on Microsoft Windows XP and Vista.
