Title: Microsoft Windows Print Spooler 'EnumeratePrintShares()' Remote Stack Buffer Overflow Vulnerability
Severity: CRITICAL
Description:
Print Spooler is a service in Microsoft Windows that manages the printing process.
Print Spooler is prone to a stack-based buffer-overflow vulnerability because the software fails to properly parse certain printing data structures. Specifically, it fails to validate 'ShareName' values received from print servers before passing them to the 'EnumeratePrintShares()' function provided by 'win32spl.dll'.
To exploit this issue, an attacker would have to set up a malicious print server with a crafted 'ShareName' that would be accessible to an affected system. The attacker would then send a specially crafted RPC request to the affected system.
Successful exploits would allow the attacker to execute arbitrary code with system-level privileges. Failed exploit attempts will likely cause denial-of-service conditions.
