Title: strongSwan IKE Request Multiple Remote Denial Of Service Vulnerabilities
Severity: MODERATE
Description:
strongSwan is an open-source implementation of an IPSec VPN for Linux.
Since it fails to properly handle certain IKE packets, the application is prone to multiple remote denial-of-service vulnerabilities:
1. If the IKEv2 charon daemon receives a CREATE_CHILD_SA request following a malformed IKE_SA_INIT request, the process will crash because of a NULL-pointer exception.
2. The IKEv2 charon daemon will crash because of a NULL-pointer exception when processing malformed IKE_AUTH requests missing either the TSi or TSr traffic selector payload. This issue stems from an error in the ordering of NULL-pointer checks for these fields.
Attackers can exploit these issue to crash the IKEv2 charon daemon, denying access to legitimate users.
Versions prior to strongSwan 4.3.1 and 4.2.15 are vulnerable.
