Title: NSD 'packet.c' Off-By-One Buffer Overflow Vulnerability

Severity: CRITICAL

Description:

NSD is a name server.

NSD is prone to an off-by-one buffer-overflow vulnerability because the server fails to perform adequate boundary checks on user-supplied data. The vulnerability occurs in the 'packet_read_query_section()' function of 'packet.c' and in the 'process_query_section()' function of 'query.c'.

Attackers can exploit this issue by sending a specially crafted packet to the vulnerable server. Successfully exploiting this issue will allow attackers to execute arbitrary code within the context of the server. Failed exploit attempts will result in a denial-of-service condition.

Versions prior to NSD 3.2.2 are vulnerable.
