Title: TIBCO SmartSockets RTserver Stack Buffer Overflow Vulnerability
Severity: CRITICAL
Description:
TIBCO SmartSockets is a message-passing framework.
The application is prone to a stack-based buffer-overflow vulnerability that occurs because it fails to perform adequate boundary checks on user-supplied data. Specifically, this issue occurs when the RTserver component parses requests on the UDP interface.
Attackers can exploit this issue to execute arbitrary code with SYSTEM-level privileges, facilitating the complete compromise of affected computers. Failed exploit attempts will likely crash the affected application, denying service to legitimate users.
Versions prior to SmartSockets 6.8.2 are vulnerable.
Affected Products:
- TIBCO SmartSockets 6.0.0
- TIBCO SmartSockets 6.8.0
- TIBCO SmartSockets 6.8.1
