Title: RSA SecurID WebID Unicode Directory Traversal Vulnerability

Severity: HIGH

Description:

RSA SecurID is a commercial product which provides local and remote authentication to restrict unauthorized access to resources on a host. WebID provides web-based authentication.

A vulnerability exists in SecurID which could allow an unauthorized user to gain access to a known file residing on a target host. This may be the result of the C Libraries, used by SecurID, inability to handle Unicode characters.

This is achievable if a remote user submits a specially crafted URL using double dot "../" directory traversal sequences, with Unicode character representations substituted for "/" and "\". In addition, the user would have to include the name of a known file in order to access it. Appending a '?' to the end of the specially crafted URL will ensure the host carries out the request.

It should be noted that the use of Unicode character representation of '/' or '\' will bypass the SecurID authentication page.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could lead to an unauthorized user gaining access to any known file. Disclosure of sensitive information may allow for more 'intelligent' attacks.

Affected Products:

  • RSA Security SecurID 5.0.0
