Title: Flatnux Arbitrary File Upload and Multiple Local File Include Vulnerabilities

Severity: HIGH

Description:

Flatnux is a PHP-based content manager.

The application is prone to multiple input-validation vulnerabilities:

1. Local file-include vulnerabilities affect the following scripts and parameters:

'sections/00_News/admin.php' : '_FN['vmod']'
'sections/02_Flatforum/search.php' : 'module'
'sections/06_Download/section.php' : '_FNVMOD'
'sections/08_Files/search.php' : 'module'
'sections/10_Login/section.php' : '_FN['vmod']'
'sections/none_Control_Center/section.php' : '_FN['vmod']'
'themes/tp_alpha/theme.php' : '_FN['theme']'
'themes/tp_dhtml2/theme.php' : '_FN['theme']'
'themes/tp_green/theme.php' : '_FN['theme']'

2. An arbitrary-file-upload vulnerability affects the 'include/xmldb.php' script because it fails to sufficiently sanitize file extensions when files are uploaded onto the webserver. Specifically, the application restricts files based on a nonexhaustive blacklist of extensions. An attacker must authenticate to the vulnerable application to exploit this issue.

The attacker can exploit these issues to upload arbitrary files onto the webserver, execute arbitrary local files within the context of the webserver, and obtain sensitive information.

Flatnux 2009-03-27 is vulnerable; other versions may also be affected.

Affected Products:

  • Flatnux Flatnux
  • Flatnux Flatnux 2009-01-27
  • Flatnux Flatnux 2009-03-27
