Title: Mountain Network Systems WebCart Command Execution Vulnerability

Severity: HIGH

Description:

Mountain Network Systems WebCart is a cgi based online shopping suite. An error in the webcart.cgi script allows a remote user to pass an arbitrary shell command which will be executed by the script.

'webcart.cgi' accepts an HTML variable called 'EXTPAGE'. The value of this variable is passed directly to the shell. It is possible to embed shell commands in this variable that will be executed when the command is executed.

It may be possible for remote attackers to gain interactive access to the host by exploiting this vulnerability. It is significantly easier to gain superuser privileges if interactive (or 'local') access can be obtained.

Affected Products:

  • Mountain Network Systems Inc. WebCart 8.4.0
