Title: EMC RepliStor Multiple Remote Heap Based Buffer Overflow Vulnerabilities

Severity: CRITICAL

Description:

EMC RepliStor provides data recovery and protection for Microsoft Windows platforms.

The application is prone to multiple remote heap-based buffer-overflow vulnerabilities because it fails to perform adequate boundary checks on user-supplied input before using it in an insufficiently sized buffer. The vulnerabilities occur when handling malformed data sent over unspecified TCP ports to the 'ctrlservice.exe' and 'rep_srv.exe' processes.

A remote attacker can exploit these issues to execute arbitrary code with SYSTEM-level privileges. Successfully exploiting this issue will result in the complete compromise of affected computers. Failed exploit attempts will result in a denial-of-service condition.

Versions prior to RepliStor 6.2 SP5 and RepliStor 6.3 SP2 are vulnerable.

Affected Products:

  • EMC RepliStor 6.1.3
  • EMC RepliStor 6.2 SP2
  • EMC RepliStor 6.2 SP4
  • EMC RepliStor 6.2.x
  • EMC RepliStor 6.3 SP1
