Title: WinMySQLadmin Plain Text Password Storage Vulnerability
Severity: MODERATE
Description:
WinMySQLadmin is a program that enables users to manage MySQL database information. WinMySQLadmin creates the 'my.ini' file, which contains its environment and configuration data.
An issue exists with WinMySQLadmin 1.1 which could lead to the disclosure of confidential MySQL authentication information.
If a local user successfully gained access to the 'my.ini' file, the contents would reveal configuration and privileged username and password information, this information is written in cleartext.
It should be noted that if proper file permissions are in place, the average user would not likely be able to view this file. However this is dependant on environment configurations.
Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could assist in further compromise of the host.
Affected Products:
- MySQL AB MySQL 3.23.0 .x
- MySQL AB WinMySQLadmin 1.1.0
