Title: BreakPoint Software Hex Workshop CMAP File Handling Buffer Overflow Vulnerability

Severity: HIGH

Description:

Hex Workshop is a hex editor for the Microsoft Windows platform.

Hex Workshop is prone to a heap-based buffer-overflow vulnerability because it fails to perform adequate boundary checks on user-supplied input.

Attackers can exploit this issue by enticing an unsuspecting user to open a specially crafted CmapTools Concept Map (CMAP) file containing excessive data.

Attackers may leverage this issue to execute arbitrary code in the context of the application. Failed attacks will cause denial-of-service conditions.

Hex Workshop 5.1.4 is vulnerable; other versions may also be affected.

Affected Products:

  • BreakPoint Software Hex Workshop 5.1.4
