Title: Mozilla Thunderbird Malformed MIME Message Denial Of Service Vulnerability

Severity: MODERATE

Description:

Mozilla Thunderbird is a cross-platform mail client for Windows, Linux, and Apple Mac OS X.

The application is prone to a denial-of-service vulnerability because it fails to properly handle malformed multipart MIME messages. An email consisting of a malformed MIME structure with many parts or with many 'Content-type: message/rfc822' headers can trigger the issue.

An attacker can exploit this issue to crash the application during delivery.

This issue is related to BID 18433 (Sendmail Malformed MIME Message Denial Of Service Vulnerability) and to BID 32702 (Microsoft Outlook Express Malformed MIME Message Denial Of Service Vulnerability).

Affected Products:

  • Mozilla Thunderbird 2.0.0.14
