Title: Ubuntu Privacy Remix S/ATA-Disks Security Bypass Vulnerability

Severity: LOW

Description:

Ubuntu Privacy Remix (UPR) is a modified live CD based on Ubuntu Linux. The read-only CD provides an isolated and unmodifiable environment.

UPR is prone to a security-bypass vulnerability that may allow attackers to modify the operating system. This issue occurs because UPR allows attackers to mount RAID-Arrays onto the affected computer. Specifically, it identifies RAID-controllers as SCSI-controllers even when (S)-DATA-Disks are being used. This allows attackers to modify the operating system environment, bypassing the privacy mechanism.

Attackers can exploit this issue to mount S-/ATA-Disks onto the affected computer. This will allow attackers to bypass the privacy mechanism used by the live CD. Successfully exploiting this issue may compromise the privacy of users.

Versions prior to Ubutnu Privacy Remix 8.04 r1 are vulnerable.

Affected Products:

  • privacy-cd.org Ubuntu Privacy Remix
