Title: Apple iTunes/QuickTime Malformed '.mov' File Buffer Overflow Vulnerability

Severity: HIGH

Description:

Apple iTunes and QuickTime are media players for Microsoft Windows and Apple MAC OS X.

Apple iTunes and QuickTime are prone to a buffer-overflow vulnerability because they fail to adequately bounds-check user-supplied data before copying it into an insufficiently sized buffer. Specifically, the issue occurs when processing '.mov' files containing overly large arguments.

An attacker could exploit this issue by enticing an unsuspecting user to open a malicious '.mov' file with the affected application.

Successfully exploiting this issue will allow the attacker to execute arbitrary code within the context of an affected application. Failed exploit attempts will result in a denial-of-service condition.

This issue affects the following:

iTunes 8.0.2.20 through 9.0.1.8
QuickTime 7.3.4 through QuickTime X

Additional versions or applications that rely on the QuickTime library may also be affected.
