Title: HP-UX Line Printer Daemon Buffer Overflow Vulnerability

Severity: CRITICAL

Description:

The line printer daemon, 'rlpdaemon', shipped with HP-UX contains a remotely exploitable buffer overflow vulnerability. The print protocol daemon, which listens on TCP port 515, facilitates printing over a network and is enabled by default.

The precise technical details are not yet available, however the discoverer has verified that it can be exploited to execute arbitrary code. The daemon runs with root privileges, so any code that can be run by an attacker would execute as the superuser.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability can lead to remote attackers gaining root privileges on the target host.

Updates will be released as more details become available.

Affected Products:

  • HP HP-UX 10.1.0 0
  • HP HP-UX 10.10.0
  • HP HP-UX 10.20.0
  • HP HP-UX 11.0.0
  • HP HP-UX 11.11.0
