Title: MoinMoin Cross-Site Scripting and Information Disclosure Vulnerabilities

Severity: MODERATE

Description:

MoinMoin is a freely available, open-source wiki written in Python. It is available for UNIX and Linux platforms.

Since it fails to sanitize user-supplied input, MoinMoin is prone to these vulnerabilities:

1. A cross-site scripting issue affects URIs that inject ASCII characters along with a 'linkto' URI.

2. An information-disclosure issue allows attackers to obtain sensitive information from Python traceback error messages. By providing an excessively long URI string, attackers can learn details about the platform, version, application path, and other details. Information harvested may aid in launching further attacks.

An attacker may leverage these issues to execute arbitrary script code in the browser of an unsuspecting user in the context of the affected site. This may allow the attacker to steal cookie-based authentication credentials or other sensitive information and to launch other attacks.

MoinMoin 1.5.9 and 1.8.0 are vulnerable; other versions may also be affected.

Affected Products:

  • MoinMoin MoinMoin 1.5.9
  • MoinMoin MoinMoin 1.8.0
