Title: Openfire Multiple Input Validation Vulnerabilities

Severity: HIGH

Description:

Openfire is an open-source XMPP (Jabber) server implemented in Java.

The application is prone to multiple input-validation vulnerabilities:

1. An SQL-injection vulnerability affects the 'type' parameter of the 'sipark-log-summary.jsp' script.

2. Multiple cross-site scripting vulnerabilities affect the 'url' and 'username' parameters of the 'login.jsp' script.

3. An authentication-bypass vulnerability affects the administrative interface. This issue occurs because of a design error in the Tomcat application server filter 'org.jivesoftware.admin.AuthCheckFilter'. Files marked as 'excludes' by the filter are not secured as expected.

A successful exploit of these issues may allow an attacker to gain unauthorized access to the affected application, compromise the application, access or modify data, exploit vulnerabilities in the underlying database, execute arbitrary script code within the context of the browser, and steal cookie-based authentication credentials. Other attacks are also possible.

Openfire 3.6.0a is vulnerable; other versions may also be affected.

Affected Products:

  • Gentoo Linux
  • Ignite Realtime Openfire 3.6.0a
