Title: SuSE sdb Arbitrary Command Execution Vulnerability
Severity: CRITICAL
Description:
An input validation error exists in sdb, the SuSE Support Data Base.
The problem exists in the sdbsearch.cgi script, which uses data directly from the 'Referer' header field when a HTTP request is made. Part of this data is used as a path by the script when opening it's "keylist.txt" file. No input checking is performed to ensure that the path is within the web server's directory tree.
The keylist file contains a list of keywords and associated files. Those files are opened using Perl's open() command, as a result it may be possible for an attacker to include a pipe ('|') character as part of the filename, causing Perl to execute the data following the pipe as a command.
If an attacker is able to create a malicious "keylist.txt" file on a vulnerable host, it may be possible for the attacker to cause arbitrary commands to be executed by the sdbsearch.cgi script.
