Title: Alt-N MDaemon Mail Relaying Vulnerability

Severity: MODERATE

Description:

MDaemon is an email server that supports most common internet mail protocols offered by Alt-N Technologies.

MDaemon is prone to a vulnerability that could allow a user to specify the address in the 'From' field before sending an email message. When the recipient receives the mail message, the point of origin will be false. The attacker could manipulate this issue to carry out unauthorized email relaying.

Note that the default installation of MDaemon does not allow mail relaying; the administrator has to modify the configuration to support mail relaying. In addition, a switch is set by default to prevent conditions such as this from occurring.

Affected Products:

  • Alt-N MDaemon 3.0.3
