Title: Novell Groupwise Directory Disclosure Vulnerability

Severity: HIGH

Description:

Novell GroupWise is a messaging system used across intranet and internet environments. GroupWise has various features including scheduling, calendaring, email, document managemnt etc.

Remote users can gain read access to directories residing on a host where GroupWise has been installed and indexing of directories has been enabled. Submitting a 'get / http/1.1' command could cause arbitrary directories and files to be disclosed, potentially compromising the privacy of user data and/or obtaining information which could be used to further compromise the host's security.

The problem appears to be an inability to handle commands in lower-case letters.

If successfully exploited this vulnerability could lead to the disclosure of sensitive information assisting in further attacks against the host.

It should be noted that successful exploitation of this vulnerability has been inconsistent.

Affected Products:

  • Novell Groupwise 5.5.0
