Title: TrollFTPD Buffer Overflow Vulnerability
Severity: HIGH
Description:
TrollFTPD is a small FTP server offered by TrollTech.
TrollFTPD contains an exploitable buffer overflow in it's handling of long path names. The overflow condition is present when a client requests a recursive directory list.
If a path exists on the filesystem that is greater than 4088 characters in total length, a stack overrun will cause a function stack frame to be corrupted when a recursive directory list of the long directory is requested.
Attackers may be able to exploit this vulnerability if they can create directories on the affected ftp servers. They may be able to construct a directory tree with exploit code as part of the path.
It has been demonstrated that it is possible to force the execution of shellcode as root using this vulnerability.
