Title: The Gemini Portal Cookie Authentication Bypass Vulnerability
Severity: MODERATE
Description:
The Gemini Portal is a PHP-based content manager.
The application is prone to an authentication-bypass vulnerability because it fails to adequately verify user-supplied input used for cookie-based authentication. Attackers can gain administrative privileges by manipulating the 'user' cookie parameter that is set when users log in. An attacker may masquerade as an administrator by setting the value of this cookie parameter to 'admin'.
Attackers can exploit this vulnerability to gain administrative access to the affected application; other attacks are also possible.
The Gemini Portal 4.7 is vulnerable; other versions may also be affected.
