Title: HP JetDirect JetAdmin Password Vulnerability
Severity: HIGH
Description:
HP JetDirect JetAdmin is the installation and management software for HP's line of commercial print servers.
A problem exists in the JetAdmin web interface.
If the web interface is used to set the administrative password while securing the device, a password is not set for telnet access. This leaves the telnet port open to unrestricted remote access. A remote user may gain access to the device via telnet without challenge, which could result in the user changing configuration of the printer as a denial of service attack, or could potentially monitor the activity of the printer to gather information that may be later used in a strategic compromise of systems.
This problem is compounded by the fact that the admin password is reset when the device is rebooted.
