VMware is a Virtual Machine software package maintained and distributed by VMware, Incorporated.
A problem with VMware could allow users to gain access to sensitive information. This information could also lead to theft of credentials for the use of the VMware package.
VMware, when installed on Linux, saves it's license data in a file with permissions inadequate to preserve the integrity of the information. Upon input of registration information, this information is stored in a file in the /tmp directory. The file is usually created using the filename vmware-log.username where username is the name of the system user that has installed the package.
