Title: Sambar Server Insecure Default Password Protection Vulnerability
Severity: HIGH
Description:
Sambar Server is a multi-threaded HTTP server for Microsoft Windows and Unix systems.
Sambar Server provides weak default protection for user passwords.
The default blowfish two-way encryption algorithm employs only a single key, built into the server binary. This allows for the key to be recovered, and user passwords to be extracted.
The server's implementation of blowfish uses a single key, built in to the binary, to perform the password encryption/decryption operations. This flaw arises from the fact that the key can be readily recovered by a local user.
Compromise of the webserver's passwords could allow a local attacker to interfere with the website's design and function, obtain confidential or security-sensitive information which could assist further attacks on the host.
