Title: GPicView Multiple Local Security Vulnerabilities
Severity: MODERATE
Description:
GPicView is an open-source image viewer.
GPicView is affected by multiple local security vulnerabilities:
1. The application creates temporary files in an insecure manner because it assumes only one user exists on the computer. '/tmp/rot.jpg' is hardcoded in the 'src/main-win.c' source file for jpeg file saves. Attackers can overwrite this file with malicious data by executing a symbolic-link attack.
2. The application permits data to be overwritten with an arbitrary file. This issue affects GPicView built with the LIBJPEG library. The 'ask_before_save' preference setting is ignored, allowing an attacker to overwrite data with a symlink attack; no confirmation from the user is required.
3. The application permits data to be overwritten because it ignores the 'ask_before_save' and 'auto_save_rotated' preference settings in the 'on_rotate_clockwise()' and 'on_rotate_counterclockwise()' functions in the 'src/main-win.c' source file. This can allow an attacker to overwrite data with a symlink attack; no confirmation from the user is required.
Attackers may leverage these issues to overwrite arbitrary files with the privileges of the user running the application.
GPicView 0.1.9 is vulnerable; other versions may also be affected.
