Title: Zone Labs ZoneAlarm MailSafe Bypass Vulnerability

Severity: HIGH

Description:

ZoneAlarm is a Windows firewall. It has the ability to limit which applications can access the network as well as numerous other security features. ZoneAlarm includes a feature called MailSafe that can filter specific filetypes from email attachments. If a prohibited attachment is detected, ZoneAlarm will rename the file extension to '.zl' and continue with the delivery of the email. This is done to protect user's from malicious files (example: .vbs, .exe, .com, etc). Typically, if a user should be legitimately receiving a high risk file, the user would know to rename it with the proper extension.

Due to a flaw in the handling of long filenames, it is possible for a user to bypass the MailSafe feature. If an attachment is composed with an unusually long filename along with a prohibited file extension, ZoneAlarm will treat the illicit file as one of a trusted type.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could lead to a complete compromise of the host, and possibly assist in further attacks against the target host.
