Title: Winamp 'NowPlaying' MP3 Tag Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability
Severity: MODERATE
Description:
Winamp is a freely available media player from Nullsoft. It is available for Microsoft Windows.
The application is prone to a cross-site scripting vulnerability that affects the 'NowPlaying' feature. When an mp3 file is played, Winamp may display details about the file in an embedded browser window. The application fails to sufficiently sanitize information contained in the 'id3' tags of the media file before including it in this page.
The affected page is hosted by a Winamp domain, but script code will have access to the Winamp player through a 'window.external' bridge. Attacker-supplied code will be able to access functions meant to control the Winamp player. Further attacks may be possible, but this has not been confirmed.
This issue affects versions prior to Winamp 5.541.
Affected Products:
- NullSoft Winamp 5.54
