Title: RealVNC 4.1.2 'vncviewer.exe' Remote Denial of Service Vulnerability

Severity: MODERATE

Description:

RealVNC (Virtual Network Computing) allows users to access remote computers for administration purposes.

RealVNC is prone to a remote denial-of-service vulnerability because it fails to perform adequate boundary checks on user-supplied data. This issue occurs in the Windows Client ('vncviewer.exe') when using the 'RFB 003.008' protocol with no security settings. An attacker can exploit this issue by sending a malicious frame buffer to the application via TCP port 5900.

Successfully exploiting this issue will allow the attacker to crash the affected application, denying service to legitimate users. Given the nature of this issue, the attacker may also be able to execute arbitrary code, but this has not been confirmed.

RealVNC 4.1.2 is vulnerable; other versions may also be affected.

Affected Products:

  • RealVNC RealVNC 4.1.2
