Title: AllCommerce Symlink Vulnerability

Severity: MODERATE

Description:

AllCommerce is free, open-source e-commerce application. It ships with EnGarde Secure Linux.

AllCommerce shipped with EnGarde has debug mode enabled by default. When in debug mode, AllCommerce creates files in the /tmp directory insecurely.

It does not check if the files already exist and furthermore the files are created with predictable names.
Any symlinks created will overwrite files with the privileges of the software, in this case as the 'webd' user.

Files that are attacked in this manner will be corrupted, which can cause critical data to be lost. A denial of services may also occur, depending on which files are targetted. There is also a potential for privilege escalation if the files can be overwritten with malicious content. The attacker would have to be local to exploit this vulnerability.

The source of this problem is that AllCommerce packages are released with several debugging options enabled, which is what causes the temporary files to be created.

Affected Products:

  • Guardian Digital Engarde Secure Linux 1.0.1
  • Lee Herron AllCommerce 1.2.3
