Title: Crysis HTTP/XML-RPC Service Remote Denial of Service Vulnerability

Severity: MODERATE

Description:

Crysis is a commercially available first-person-shooter game distributed by Electronic Arts.

Crysis is prone to a denial-of-service vulnerability because it fails to handle exceptional conditions. Specifically, this issue is caused by a NULL-pointer dereference error in the HTTP/XML-RPC service, which receives 'rcon' commands.

An attacker can exploit this issue by sending an HTTP request containing more than 4096 bytes to the TCP port specified by the game administrator, which is often port 80 or 64087.

If successful, the attacker can cause the affected application to crash, denying service to legitimate users.

Crysis 1.21 is vulnerable; other versions may also be affected.

Affected Products:

  • Electronic Arts Inc. Crysis 1.21
