Description:
The X.Org X Server is an open-source X Window System for UNIX, Linux, and variants. It is freely available and distributed publicly.
X.Org X Server is prone to an information-disclosure vulnerability that lets X clients read arbitrary X server memory.
This issue stems from an integer-overflow flaw in the 'Xext/shm.c' source file. Specifically, by passing specially crafted arguments in a 'ShmPutImage' request, X clients can trigger a memory copy that will place arbitrary server memory into a pixmap buffer. Subsequent reads of the resulting pixmap will return potentially sensitive information to the client.
This issue may be exploited locally or remotely, depending on the configuration of the vulnerable X server application.
Attackers can exploit this issue to obtain sensitive information that may lead to further attacks.
