Title: CylantSecure Kernel Module Syscall Rerouting Vulnerability
Severity: MODERATE
Description:
CylantSecure is a commercial Linux hardening tool and security infrastructure available from Cylant Technology.
A problem in the package could allow users to execute programs outside of the CylantSecure infrastructure. This makes it possible for a local user with root access to execute arbitrary system calls.
The problem is in the delay of the CylantSecure system. The loading of kernel modules by the CylantSecure infrastructure is prohibited. However, there is a delay between the time the module is loaded, and the time it is killed by the infrastructure. By loading a module that redirects system calls, it is possible to escape the monitoring of the infrastructure. This makes it possible for a local user to execute any program outside of the infrastructure without restriction.
This vulnerability could be exploited to aid in the launch of backdoor systems or rootkits, and potentially to load other kernel modules.
Affected Products:
- Cylant Techonologies CylantSecure Advanced 1.0.0
- Cylant Techonologies CylantSecure SOHO 1.0.0
