Title: Unixware Cron Command Line Buffer Overflow Vulnerability
Severity: MODERATE
Description:
Cron is a task scheduler for Unix systems.
Crontab is prone to a buffer overflow in handling of command line parameters. An attacker may take advantage of this by executing crontab with a malicious argument.
It is believed that this vulnerability is due to a stack overflow. An attacker may be able to craft an argument that overwrites a function return address with a pointer to supplied shellcode. When the corrupted function returns, the program will resume execution at attacker-supplied instructions.
Since crontab is setuid root by default, successful exploitation of this vulnerability will result in a full compromise of the host.
Affected Products:
- Caldera UnixWare 0.0.07
