Title: Novell Client for Windows Forgotten Password Local Privilege Escalation Vulnerability

Severity: HIGH

Description:

Novell Client for Windows allows users to access Novell services from remote computers.

The client is prone to a local privilege-escalation vulnerability because it fails to adequately bounds-check user-supplied input.

The vulnerability occurs because the 'Forgotten Password' process fails to properly handle excessively long usernames. By entering malicious content during the login process of the Novell Client software, attackers may run arbitrary code with elevated privileges.

Successfully exploiting this issue may result in the complete compromise of affected computers.

Novell Client for Windows 4.91 SP4 is vulnerable; other versions may also be affected.

Affected Products:

  • Novell Client 4.91 SP3
  • Novell Client 4.91 SP4
