Title: SurfControl Filter Bypass Vulnerability
Severity: LOW
Description:
SurfControl is a series of products designed to filter out harmful or questionable Internet content.
SurfControl's filtering mechanism is rendered ineffective if the attacker uses a proxy server to access restricted content.
SurfControl products will attempt to scan HTTP requests. Normally, the filter in these products will detect restricted content if the HTTP request and the "Host:" information are encapsulated in one packet. However, proxy servers have a tendency to divide this information into two packets, which will cause SurfControl's filter to ignore such requests. The result is that the protection mechanism is bypassed.
Attackers can exploit this vulnerability to view unsafe or prohibited content.
Affected Products:
- SurfControl CyberPatrol 5.0.0
- SurfControl SuperScout 2.6.1.6
- SurfControl SuperScout 3.0.1
- SurfControl SuperScout 3.0.2
