Title: Multiple Vendor lpd Remote Buffer Overflow Vulnerability

Severity: CRITICAL

Description:

BSD-based line printer daemons such as 'in.lpd' or 'lpd' contain a remotely exploitable buffer overflow vulnerability. The line printer daemon, which listens on tcp port 515, facilitates printing over a network. The daemon is enabled by default on AIX and Solaris systems.

The vulnerability reportedly exists in the 'transfer job' operation. The precise technical details are not yet available, however the discoverer has verified that it can be exploited to execute arbitrary code. The daemon runs with root privileges, so any code that can be run by an attacker would execute as the superuser.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability can lead to remote attackers gaining root privileges on the target host.

Updates will be released as more details become available.
