Title: grsecurity Multiple RBAC Local Security Bypass Vulnerabilities

Severity: MODERATE

Description:

The 'grsecurity' application is an addon to the Linux kernel using multilayered detection, prevention, and containment.

The application is prone to multiple local security-bypass vulnerabilities because it fails to handle return values to certain functions in the RBAC (Role-Based Access Control) system. Specifically, the 'user_transition_allow' and 'user_transition_deny' rules can be bypassed with calls to the 'sys_setfsuid()' and 'sys_setfsgid()' functions.

Successful exploits will allow attackers to bypass certain security restrictions.

Versions prior to grsecurity 2.1.11-2.6.24.5 (2008-04-21) and 2.1.11-2.4.36.2 (2008-04-21) are affected.

Affected Products:

  • grsecurity grsecurity Kernel Patch 2.1.1
