Title: DBMail Authentication Bypass Vulnerability

Severity: HIGH

Description:

DBMail is an application that stores emails in an SQL-based database.

DBMail is prone to a vulnerability that may let attackers authenticate without a valid password in some configurations. This vulnerability is known to occur when the 'authldap' module is used with an Active Directory server. If the client supplies a blank password during authentication, the module will try to bind anonymously to the LDAP server. The client will be successfully authenticated if the LDAP server is configured to allow anonymous binding.

This could let an attacker gain unauthorized access to emails stored by the application.

Affected Products:

  • Gentoo Linux
  • RedHat Fedora 7
  • RedHat Fedora 8
  • RedHat Fedora 9
  • dbmail dbmail 2.2.5
