Title: Microburst uDirectory Remote Command Execution Vulnerability
Severity: HIGH
Description:
uDirectory is an online directory and listing management system.
An input validation error exists in uDirectory that may allow remote users to execute arbitrary commands on a host running the software.
The problem occurs when a user submits a query string to the 'udirectory.pl' script, containing 'add_new_listing' as the value to the 'command' field and the arbitrary commands the attacker wishes to execute in the 'category_file' field.
When the script enters an internal subroutine used to check if the entry given in the request is a duplicate, it calls perl's open() function with the user-supplied input. No checking for special metacharacters is performed on the string.
As a result, it is possible to insert special characters in the 'category_file' field that could cause the perl interpreter to execute arbitrary commands instead of opening the intended file.
