Title: Apple iCal 'COUNT' Parameter Integer Overflow Vulnerability

Severity: HIGH

Description:

Apple iCal is a calendar application that comes with the Apple Mac OS X operating system. iCal allows users to import and export ICS (iCalendar calendaring and scheduling) files.

Apple iCal is prone to an integer-overflow vulnerability because it fails to ensure that integer values aren't overrun. Specifically, the application fails to check the value of the 'COUNT' parameter.

An attacker can exploit this issue by enticing an unsuspecting victim to import a malicious '.ics' file.

Successfully exploiting this issue will allow attackers to execute arbitrary code within the context of the affected application. Failed exploit attempts will result in a denial-of-service condition.

This issue affects iCal 3.0.1 running on Mac OS X 10.5.1; previous versions may also be affected.

Affected Products:

  • Apple iCal 3.0.1
