Title: Sun SPARC Enterprise T5120 and T5220 Servers Insecure Default Configuration Vulnerability
Severity: CRITICAL
Description:
Some Sun SPARC Enterprise T5120 and T5220 Servers are shipped with an insecure default configuration for SSHD.
This issue is caused by the improper configuration of the operating system. Multiple insecure configuration settings may be exploited together to allow local and remote attackers to execute commands with superuser privileges.
The following insecure configuration options are present:
- Remote superuser access is granted via the '/etc/default/login' configuration file.
- Remote superuser access is allowed via SSHD and when the 'PermitRootLogin' option is set to 'yes'.
- Insecure variables are set in '/.profile'.
- Unnecessary files are present, but should not be.
Successful exploits allow local and remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands with superuser privileges. This facilitates the complete compromise of affected computers.
Only Sun SPARC Enterprise T5120 and T5220 Servers running the factory-installed Solaris 10 OS image dated prior to BEL0748000 are affected.
Affected Products:
- Sun SPARC Enterprise T5120 Server
- Sun SPARC Enterprise T5220 Server
