Title: Microsoft Windows 2000 Telnet Multiple Sessions DoS Vulnerability
Severity: MODERATE
Description:
Microsoft Windows 2000 ships with a telnet service. A vulnerability exists in the telnet service which could enable a remote client to perform a denial of service attack against a host.
It is possible for a remote client to connect to the telnet service and leave the connection idle without the host terminating the session. If this technique is performed as many times as the host allows connections, other legitimate clients will not be able to connect to the service. Under "normal" conditions idle connections time out after a certain amount of time.
No further technical details have been provided.
A restart of the service is required in order to gain normal functionality.
