Title: Netscape 'document.referrer' User Information Disclosure Vulnerability

Severity: MODERATE

Description:

Often websites use 'document.referrer' to gain knowledge of the URL of the linked-from document, this is done to track where users came from. Javascript is used to implement the 'document.referrer' feature.

Due to a flaw in some versions of Netscape a certain URL scheme is used for 'document.referrer', containing the path to the user's mail folder, system login credentials and possibly the path to the location where Netscape resides.

When reading mail using Netscape's reader, it is possible to unknowingly send various sensitive user data to an arbitrary host.

If a mail message containing a link to a website is read using Netscape, it is possible that Netscape will send the 'document.referrer' URL in the scheme which will divulge privileged information.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could lead to the disclosure of sensitive system data and assist in further attacks of the target host.
