Title: Crysis Username Format String Vulnerability

Severity: HIGH

Description:

Crytek's Crysis is a commercially available game distributed by Electronic Arts.

Crysis is prone to a format-string vulnerability that affects a 'vsprintf()' function that is used when creating debug strings. The game includes users' names in the format-string specifier. If an attacker creates a name containing format-specifier sequences, and then dies in the game, all connected users will have the issue triggered.

Exploiting this issue will allow attackers to execute arbitrary code with the permissions of a user running the application. Failed attacks will likely cause denial-of-service conditions.

Crysis 1.1.1.5879 is vulnerable to this issue; other versions may also be affected.

Affected Products:

  • Crytek Crysis 1.1.1 .5879
