Title: GuildFTPD Plaintext Password Storage Vulnerability

Severity: HIGH

Description:

GuildFTPD is a free Windows-based ftp server by DrPhibez and Nitro187.

User credentials are stored in a file (default.usr) residing in GuildFTPD's directory structure. The default.usr file contains all of the usernames and passwords in plain text. Through the use of an existing vulnerability (a trivial directory traversal issue), BID #2789, a remote attacker could undermine the server's integrity.

Unauthorized access to this file could lead to the disclosure of sensitive data, assisting in further attacks against the host.

Affected Products:

  • DrPhibez and Nitro187 Guild FTPD 0.9.7
