Title: GuildFTPD Remote Buffer Overflow Vulnerability
Severity: CRITICAL
Description:
GuildFTPD is a free Windows-based ftp server.
A buffer overflow condition exists in GuildFTPD that may allow a remote user to execute arbitrary code/commands on a target host running the server.
The overflow occurs when the server recieves a SITE command from a client. The argument to this command is copied into an internal buffer without bounds checking. If this argument exceeds 261 bytes in length, the extraneous data overwrites neighboring memory.
It is possible to crash the service by sending a SITE command argumented with a long string (greater than 261 characters). It may be possible to execute arbitrary code on the host through overwriting a function return address with a pointer to attacker-supplied instructions, or 'shellcode'.
