Title: DynFX MailServer POP3d Denial of Service Vulnerability

Severity: HIGH

Description:

DynFX MailServer, from DynFX Internet Services, provides POP3 and SMTP services under WinNT/2000.

DynFX's POPd is vulnerable to buffer overflows of the 'm_srtUser' field of the logon function's string-handling code:

| strMutex = _T("POP3_") + m_strUser + _T("_Lock");
| m_pMutex = new CMutex( FALSE, strMutex );

If a remote attacker attempts to connect by supplying an unusually long username, of at least 258 characters' length, the pop3 service will terminate, requiring a restart.

Affected Products:

  • DynFX MailServer 2.10.0 build 3595.1
