Title: FreeBSD 'sendfile(2)' Write-Only File Permission Security Bypass Vulnerability

Severity: LOW

Description:

The 'sendfile(2)' system call allows servers to efficiently transmit file contents over network sockets.

FreeBSD is prone to a security-bypass vulnerability because the software fails to validate file permissions. Specifically, the 'sendfile(2)' system call fails to check the file descriptor access before sending the content of the file over a network. This may allow attackers to send data from files with write-only permissions over a network.

Attackers can exploit this issue to obtain sensitive information that may lead to further attacks.

Affected Products:

  • FreeBSD FreeBSD 5.5
  • FreeBSD FreeBSD 6.2
  • FreeBSD FreeBSD 6.3
  • FreeBSD FreeBSD 7.0
