Title: Symantec Ghost Solution Suite ARP Spoofing Authentication Bypass Vulnerability
Severity: CRITICAL
Description:
Symantec Ghost Solution Suite is an application used for enterprise-wide remote PC deployment, recovery, cloning, and migration. It enables administrators to deploy or restore an operating system image or application onto a PC and then migrate user settings and profiles to customize the PC.
Symantec Ghost Solution Suite is prone to an authentication-bypass vulnerability that occurs because the application fails to authenticate network connections between the Ghost console and the Ghost Management Agent.
Attackers can exploit this issue by sending a spoofed ARP packet to the affected client.
To exploit this issue, attackers must have authorized access to the internal network and must have working knowledge of the Ghost client-server RPC.
Successfully exploiting this issue will allow attackers to impersonate the Symantec Ghost Solution Suite server and execute arbitrary commands on the client with SYSTEM-level privileges, facilitating the complete compromise of affected computers.
This issue affects Symantec Ghost Solution Suite 1.1, 2.0.0, and 2.0.1.
NOTE: Users who do not use the Ghost Console or the Ghost Management Agent are not affected.
Affected Products:
- Symantec Ghost Solutions Suite (SGSS) 1.1
- Symantec Ghost Solutions Suite (SGSS) 2.0.0
- Symantec Ghost Solutions Suite (SGSS) 2.0.1
